#Throwback
“HerJourney” was a joint virtual event for Legon, KNUST, Koforidua Technical University and Ashesi Tech students.
It was a one-hour session focused on the journey of two resilient, inspiring and
hardworking women who have been a part of Developers in Vogue through one of the training programs and volunteerism.
They were Hannah Lormenyo, an electrical and electronics engineer undergraduate student at Ashesi University, a former lead of Developer Student Club (Ashesi University) and recently selected Generation Google Scholar and Stephanie Opoku, a Cybersecurity Support Analyst at Vodafone Ghana.
The event was held on the 7th of November 2021 at 4pm GMT. The session was centered around what inspired the guest speakers to get into tech, the challenges they faced especially as women, the endless opportunities in the tech industry and their achievements so far.
Key points from the session
• It’s okay not to have a tech or mathematical background, you can begin from where you are and figure it out along the way.
• Join a tech community, enroll for short courses, get a mentor and apply for internships. Always improve on yourself and add value.
• Don’t listen to the Nay Sayers and go for what you want. There would be opposers, discouragement and difficulties but you have to push and stand until the purpose has been achieved.
• The internet is a pool filled with so much resources that are useful for your tech journey.
