Tech Career Day
We partnered with eSkills4Girls and NIIT to celebrate International Girls in ICT Day. The girls worked in groups to research and present on various career opportunities in the tech industry. The three winning teams from our Tech Career Day had the privilege of spending a day working closely with tech professionals in companies like Hubtel, Vodafone, Agrocenta, Access Bank, Internet Solutions and PEG Africa.
Wondering how it was working in a tech company for the very first time? Our girls have documented their experiences below:
“The marvelous things I saw was that everyone was busy working with his or her computer. A software engineer took us through the steps used in creating websites. I was happy to work with the computer and with this, I would like to take up one of the many job opportunities in the world of IT in future. The experience had made me realize that through hard work and determination I can become a software engineer/product analyst in future.” I would like to say a very big thanks to eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue for giving me the chance to celebrate the International Girls In ICT Day and also making it possible for me to visit and gain so much at Vodafone.

“I learnt that IT is for all genders and that you have to work hard to achieve the IT dream and that IT can be associated with other jobs like doctoring, law and others. I also learnt about FORESCOUT server which checks for any malfunctioning and reports it. I was extremely excited to have worked at Access Bank for a day.
Thanks to eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue for giving me such an opportunity.”

“ I have learnt that we can use the internet to research for information to advertise our products. As a student, the internet can help me to practice distance learning and even to construct a robot to work like a human being. The experience I had was that, working with the computer is easy and fast. With this knowledge, I can now make a duplicate of a file and a folder. I can also create a website for myself and for other people. I can use the website to advertise my products, services or events.”

“The vast number of women I saw at Vodafone GHana has encouraged me to make up my mind to venture into any of the IT related occupation. I am really grateful to eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue for giving me the opportunity to have this experience. I thank Vodafone Ghana, Takyi Plaza, Spintex Road branch for their warm reception and lessons given to me during my visit to them. I am very grateful and appreciate it.”

“I observed something when I got there. I observed that the ladies were more in charge than the men. This shows that ladies are good to be chosen as leaders. This would make girls to be more respected by men because ladies are not only meant for the “kitchen”. I learnt that as a good leader, one should have qualities such as self respect, confidence, and be disciplined. Your gender should not define you and you should learn from your mistakes. You should also be dedicated to your work. I would like to say a very big thanks to eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue for giving me the chance to celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day at PEG Africa.”

“I am inspired to learn more about coding and to also prove that women can make a difference in the world. Because if you educate a man you educate an individual but if you educate a woman you educate a nation. Thank you eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue for giving me the opportunity to work at Hubtel.“

“I realized there were a very high number of women in the company using IT to execute their works. Most of the department I visited was headed by a woman. This has motivated me to take up leadership roles in all I can do, both at school and at home.
I have learnt that with much confidence and determination regardless of gender, one can go higher in his or her field of work so as a young lady growing up, I take solace in
the experience I have gained to seek for nothing but the ultimate in life.
I thank eSkills4Girls and Developers in Vogue and PEG Africa for giving me such an opportunity to learn.”
